Workplace conflicts event: how to harness its energy for creativity

By Caroline Bertholier

How to combine the transmission of some tools for a better work conflict management and an exchange of personal experiences.

On October 17, Agnieszka Jaros proposed an event focused on the workplace conflict management to the PWN Paris members. To host a presentation on this issue, she invited Caroline Bertholier who represented the BIRDS consulting firm founded by Nelly Dubout.

This project aimed to combine the transmission of some tools for a better work conflict management and an exchange of personal experiences.

If we manage conflict constructively,

we harness its energy for creativity and development

(Kenneth Kaye, an American psychologist).

Sharing the same interest in this issue of increasing concern to companies, 20 members of our network met in the BNP Personal Finance Conseil premises for this event.

In an open and constructive atmosphere, the dynamic interaction of participants led to the assessment of conflict impact in the workplace, the identification of the various types of conflicts and the acquisition of tools to facilitate conflict management.

The participants were also given an opportunity to analyze their own behavior in tense relational contexts sharing then their experiences, the solutions they tried, the results they got.

This evening of rich interaction has raised the awareness of the importance of not becoming bogged down with unsaid and latent conflicts, the need to adopt a positive language and a positive behavior while looking for common interests leading to shared solutions.

This meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss a position that is still rarely mentioned: the manager-mediator, a manager who takes full responsibility for managing the relations and interactions within his/her team.

In short, this event was again a great opportunity to raise awareness, put things into perspective and share on a major professional issue, all this in a positive and constructive atmosphere typical of all our PWN events.
